Helen Elizabeth Hunt - nascida em Culver City, a 15 de Junho de 1963 - é uma premiada actriz norte-americana.
Helen nasceu em Culver City (Califórnia), filha de Jane Elizabeth, uma fotógrafa, e de Gordon Hunt, um realizador de cinema e professor de representação. O seu tio, Peter H. Hunt, também é realizador. A sua avó materna, Dorothy Fries, foi uma "treinadora de voz". O seu pai é judeu, e a sua mãe era metodista. Passou parte da sua infância em Nova York e, mais tarde, frequentou a Universidade da Califórnia em Los Angeles.
Carreira
Helen começou a trabalhar na década de 1970 como actriz infantil. Os seus primeiros papéis incluem uma aparição em "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". Também apareceu, ao lado de Lindsay Wagner, num episódio de "The Bionic Woman".
Helen prosseguiu carreira em diversos filmes feitos para televisão, mas onde conseguiu maior sucesso foi na série televisiva "Doido por ti", de 1992, através da qual ganhou vários prémios como quatro Emmy de Melhor Actriz em Série de Comédia.
Em 1998, Helen ganhou o Globo de Ouro de Melhor Actriz em Comédia ou Musical e o Óscar de Melhor Actriz pela sua interpretação como Carol Connelly, uma garçonete e mãe solteira que se apaixona por Melvin Udall, um escritor obsessivo-compulsivo interpretado por Jack Nicholson no filme "Melhor É Impossível".
Em 2000, Helen voltou para o cinema em quatro filmes: "Dr. T & the Women" ("Dr. T e as mulheres"), com Richard Gere, "Pay It Forward" ("Favores em Cadeia"), com Kevin Spacey e Haley Joel Osment, "What Women Want" ("O que as Mulheres Querem") com Mel Gibson, e "Cast Away" ("Náufrago"), com Tom Hanks.
Helen também foi a candidata final para o papel de Clarice Starling em "Hannibal", depois de Jodie Foster ter decidido não retomar o seu papel vencedor do Óscar em "O Silêncio dos Inocentes". No entanto, Hunt perdeu o papel para Julianne Moore no último minuto. Em 2006, Hunt apareceu no elenco de filme "Bobby" junto com Demi Moore, Anthony Hopkins e Sharon Stone.
Em 2007, fez a sua estreia na realização com o filme "Then She Found Me" ("Até que me encontrou"), onde também actuou e escreveu o argumento. O filme recebeu críticas mistas e, após isso, não voltou a dirigir nenhum outro filme. Helen esteve, entretanto, afastada do cinema por alguns anos, até ter um retorno triunfal com o filme "Seis Sessões", que lhe rendeu diversos prémios e uma segunda nomeação ao Óscar, além de nomeações ao SAG e ao Globo de Ouro.
