Denholm Elliott (1922 - 1992)

Denholm Mitchell Elliott - nascido em Londres, a 31 de Maio de 1922, e falecido em Ibiza (Espanha), a 6 de Outubro de 1992 - foi um actor britânico nascido em Inglaterra.

Elliot foi galardoado com a Mais Excelente Ordem do Império Britânico (em inglês: Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) que é uma ordem de cavalaria estabelecida em 4 de Junho de 1917 pelo rei Jorge V.

Nascido numa família de advogados, teve uma infância difícil e problemática, tendo sido expulso de duas escolas pelas quais passou. Durante a segunda guerra mundial foi piloto da Real Força Aérea e ficou três anos prisioneiro na Polônia.

Começou a sua carreira no teatro após a segunda guerra, em 1945, e estreou-se no cinema quatro anos depois. Deu a voz à personagem do Limpa-chaminés em "The Curious Adventures of Mr. Wonderbird", de 1952, filme de animação francesa dobrado para inglês.

Construiu uma carreira sólida e era constantemente elogiado pela crítica pela sua dicção perfeita e presença em cena. Foi nomeado seis vezes ao Óscar de Melhor Actor Secundário.

Entre os seus melhores filmes estão "Alfie" (1966), "Os Comandos da Morte" (1978), "Os Salteadores da Arca Perdida" (1981), "Os Ricos e os pobres" (1983), "Quarto com Vista Sobre a Cidade" (1985), "Em Defesa da Nação" (1985), " Stealing Heaven" (1988) e "Indiana Jones e a Última Cruzada" (1989). Em 2008, aparece, numa participação post morten, em estátua em "Indiana Jones e o Reíno da Caveira de Cristal".

Foi premiado com o BAFTA na categoria de Melhor Actor Secundário em três ocasiões: em 1984, por "Ricos e Pobres"; em 1985, por "Função Privada"; e, em 1986, por "Em Defesa da Nação".

Faleceu aos 70 anos,de pneumonia e insuficiência respiratória causadas pela SIDA.
